Beautiful Modern Ideas for How to Decorate a Bathroom

Bathrooms can be a challenging space to decorate. A lot of times the elements for the bathroom pretty much speak for themselves in terms of the flooring, vanity, tile, tub, and shower. Depending on the size of your bathroom it can also be challenging to find space to really “decorate”. When it comes to bathroom decor I try to think about making the decor simple and functional. Here are some beautiful modern decor ideas to help give inspiration on how to decorate a bathroom.

How to Decorate a Bathroom with the Shower Curtain

If you shower that requires a shower curtain rather then having glass or a door, don’t under estimate the difference a shower curtain can make. It seems like a simple thing that’s just needed for the functionality of the bathroom, but it makes a big statement when it comes to the bathroom decor. Especially if you have a small bathroom like I do; the shower curtain is going to take up a big amount of space in the bathroom. Also consider where the shower is located. The shower curtain is directly across from the door in our main bathroom, so it’s the primary focal point.

I’m also a big fan of the neutral colors, so I’d recommend considering a neutral shower curtain. If you are going for a modern look neutral colors such as white, tans, grey, black, and even navy are very popular. Be careful of not going too dark with the shower curtain if you have a small bathroom unless you are going for a darker moody look. Another bonus – if you have a small bathroom consider hanging your shower curtain rod higher and getting a longer shower curtain. This will create an illusion of higher ceilings and make the bathroom appear a little larger.

How to Decorate Bathroom Shelves

I love having open shelving in bathrooms as opposed to big cabinets. Open shelving also allows you to easily add some decor to the bathroom without taking up functional space. Some items that are great options for decorating open shelving in a bathroom are: candles, faux plants, cotton swab storage, or a toilet paper basket. Some other practical items that could be stored on shelves are nice bars of soap, vase with travel size soaps for guests, wash cloths or even a nice perfume bottle.

Bathroom Towels

Similar to the shower curtain the towels in the bathroom also take up a lot of space and can be utilized to help make a statement with the decor of the bathroom. Having towels that go with the color scheme of your bathroom can be a game changer. I like the option of sticking with neutral colored towels too. I personally love having black towels because they go with our color scheme. My favorite part is that you can’t see the makeup or mascara on the black towels after just one use. I’ve also heard people liking white towels for this reason to be able to bleach them when they wash them.

How to Decorate a Bathroom with Wall Decor

Some fun wall decor is a great way to spruce up your bathroom and add a little decor to the space. It doesn’t take up any of the functional space in the bathroom either, which is an added bonus. I love having just a couple art or abstract photos on the wall of the bathroom to add a little decor without going overboard.
